AIS Environment has been chosen as a technical expert in providing consultancy and carrying out research in enhancing effective implementation of sustainable energy action plans through reinforcement of smart multilevel governance. Malta is a cluster together with other countries namely Portugal, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Estonia, Cyprus and Greece. The project addresses the barriers in implementing sustainable energy plans, the lack of resources and expertise, while assisting authorities to find ways for financing sustainable energy projects and to overcome the reluctance of financial institutions to invest in small and medium-scale projects.
AIS Environment has participated in meetings overseas and locally, promoting the importance for Local Councils to carry out a Sustainable Energy Action Plan. With this project, Local Councils are being encouraged to participate in investment schemes including local and EU investment funds to develop a number of sustainable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable transport projects. Ultimately AIS Environment through this project seeks to develop capacity of regional authorities to facilitate the implementation of their sustainable energy plans and to meet their CO2 reduction targets.
